Weekly Comment from Swedbank: Continued sluggish recovery in Europe

Last week was mostly positive on the equity markets. The most important event came at the end of the week when the ECB, earlier than expected, both lowered the policy rate and announced quantitative easing. The recovery in the United States has stabilised while the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to negatively impact European growth.

The Swedish Riksbank: Repo rate unchanged at 0.25 per cent

The Executive Board of the Riksbank has decided to hold the repo rate unchanged at 0.25 per cent to contribute to the low inflation rate rising towards the inflation target of 2 per cent. As in the previous forecast, it is assessed to be appropriate to begin raising the repo rate towards the end of 2015, when inflation is clearly higher.

Swedbank presents innovation award at European student competition

On 25 July the European Student Company Competition, were more than 400 students from 38 countries participated, was settled in Tallinn.  Rewarded were companies that had already stuck out for its strong and sustainable performance. The Icelandic company “E14-Magma” was appointed winner for their shot glasses from clay and lava and the Swedbank Innovation Award went to the company “Chicken4me” from Luxembourg.

Weekly Comment from Swedbank: Risk appetite can be affected by global concerns

According to Martin Bolander, market strategist at Swedbank Research, the markets are at present mainly focused on the geopolitical situation in Israel/Gaza and Russia/Ukraine. So far, bond and equity markets have not reacted in any significant way, except in Russia. However, risk appetite, as always, is being affected by the concern and uncertainty.
