Who needs it?

This is a story about giving and receiving. It’s also a story about the past and the future and children. That gives it a little depth, doesn’t it? And finally, it’s about the internet and social media - because everything else is, right?
Who needs it?! is an internet based volunteer movement that kicks off on the 31st of January. We call it volunteering for busy people and it’s almost as easy as joining a Facebook group. It started as a pilot in October last year and during the first phase it only connected our Lithuanian colleagues with schools. From now on our plan going forward is to involve our corporate clients and take the initiative to Lithuania nationwide
Here’s how it works. As a Swedbank employee you go to www.kamtoreikia.lt and register your profile. Are you an accountant? A webmaster? An asset manager? Or, like me, a sustainable banker? A Lithuanian teacher views the profiles and finds you, someone with exact the skills her students need. She calls you and together you discuss possible content, date and time for a lecture in her class given by YOU.… Easy, isn’t it?
And then you’re there
And then you’re there, combining your past with their future, bringing the real world into the classroom. And believe me, that is a kick! The schools get the extra resources they desperately need, the students connect to the adult world and working life and you get the jolt than only young, thirsty minds can deliver. I guarantee that Who needs it?! volunteers return to work with the fresh motivation that giving and receiving supplies. Your yesterday and their tomorrow together for an exciting today.
As far back as 1820, we started this bank with the idea that everyone deserves a secure future. The answer to “Who needs it?” turns out to be – the schools, Swedbank’s employees, the bank itself and its customers and non-customers alike, we all do! Perhaps this is the kind of idea that can spread beyond Lithuania’s borders? Latvia, Estonia, Sweden, Europe and the World!
Until we are there please join us in Lithuania at www.kamtoreikia.lt
